GSUN Leadership Council Delegate John Cairney Named Dean of School of Kinesiology at Michigan

Professor Cairney is currently head of the University of Queensland School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences, ranked 2nd globally in the QS World University Rankings by Subject (2025). He also serves as co-director of the Health and Well-Being Centre for Research Innovation; director of the Queensland Centre for Olympic and Paralympic Studies; and deputy executive director for the 2032 Office of Games Engagement.

“This is a moment of real opportunity for our discipline,” Cairney says. “I believe the School of Kinesiology is ready to build on its strong leadership and reach new heights — nationally, internationally, and with purpose.”
